FAQs
What does your business specialize in making?
*The Leningrad Tailor’s raison d’etre is reproducing clothing from the Great Patrotic War. We focus on both military and civilian garments from the Soviet Union.
So do you only make Soviet stuff?
*Initially we only did Soviet military garments, because that was what our patterning and textiles were geared to. However, we are proud to announce that in late 2022, we are looking at releasing our Camp Shelby Line of US Army Women’s wear. The women’s side of the hobby is chronically underserved in the hobby, and it’s our hope to be able to bring affordable, quality reproductions to this community. We’re able to do that because many of the US Army fabrics we use in this line can also be used for lend lease Soviet garments. Beyond this however, we do not do another other nations uniforms at this time.
However, our civilian line is generally wide open and we can accomodate most custom orders and request, regardless of nationality.
Can you make garments from other time periods, like WWI, or Cold War era?
*At this time, we do not make anything other than 30s/40s era garments, due to the time, money, and resources it would involve. That may change one day, but right now we’re firmly rooted in WWII era garments.
I ordered a Custom Garment from you, how long will it take me to get it?
*On average, it takes around 90 days for me to do a custom order. I do not run this business full time, I work a 40 hour a week job, have a family, and am in school to further my tailoring skills. On top of that, sewing garments is only part of what I have to do to keep this business running. There will be times when delivery times are faster, or shorter, and they’ll be communicated to you up front.
Do I have to pay up front for a custom order? Can’t you make it for me, and then I pay you for it?
*Funds for custom orders are due in full at the time the piece is commissioned. Unless you pay for the garment, you’re not “on the list.” There was a time I used to do this, but after being having a few customers vanish, after ordering a custom garment, and talking with others in the trade, I’ve adopted a cash on the barrelhead policy before doing any custom order.
I have a garment that needs to be altered, can you do that for me?
*We can do most alterations to garments out there, shoot us an e-mail and we can discuss specifics.
Do you have a price list for custom work? Does custom work cost alot more than buying off the rack?
*I don’t have a price list for custom work, because there’s too many variables to give you a set price on every concievable custom garment. That being said, just because it’s custom made to you, doesn’t mean it has to break the bank. I’m a reenactor, and I try and keep my prices for custom jobs accessible to the average reenactor. So, yes, a custom job generally costs more than one of my pre-made garments, however I try and keep the difference from breaking the bank.
